  1. Itinerary Welcome to Iasi

You will enjoy a few pleasant hours in one of the largest cities in Romania. You will enter the city’s bohemian atmosphere present, mostly, in the old part of the town and you will also witness the animated occidental lifestyle.

The tour starts at one of the most impressive buildings of the city, the Palace of Culture, where you can observe its flamboyant neogothic style and admire the beautiful Palas Garden behind the Palace. Next, the tour guide will take you to a walk along the main historical street of the city: Stefan cel Mare, where you’ll visit and find out information about the Vasile Alecsandri National Theatre. The building is a true architectonic jewel with one of the most amazing theater halls in the world, beautifully decorated with an iron curtain painted by Al. Goltz, rococo crystal Venice chandelier with 109 bulbs and the ceiling depicts Edenic parables representing angles and nymphs.

Next, we will visit two of the most imposing religious symbols of Iasi: The Three Hierarchs Church and The Metropolitan Cathedral. We will continue with a visit to the “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University Library, one of the most majestic libraries in the world. According to Bored Panda, this library is considered to be amongst libraries like New York Public Library, The City Library from Stuttgart, Bibliothèque Nationale De France, Biblioteca Real Gabinete Portugues De Leitura from Rio de Janeiro.

Next, you’ll be introduced to the most important place of the city history, The Union Square, where the 1859 Romanian Union was first celebrated. From here the car will take you to a local restaurant, for a tasty traditional lunch. In the second part of the tour, you will admire a beautiful view over the whole city from Copou Hill, with its University. The last stop of the tour will be in the Targu Cucu, the most important Jewish district in Iasi. Here, we will visit the Grand Synagogue from 1671 and Merarilor Synagogue.

    Trip duration: 8 hours

    Tour highlights

The Palace of Culture – This remarkable construction inaugurated in 1929 by Ferdinand of Hohenzollern was built on the ruins of a medieval royal court dating from 1434. The Palace has a flamboyant neogothic style, with ornamental details and heraldic elements outside. The Clock Tower is the main architectural piece of the entire Palace and the Carillon in the tower has eight bells that are singing each hour the Union Hora. Today, the Palace of Culture houses 4 of the city’s museums: the Moldavian History Museum, the Ethnographic Museum, the Museum of Art and the Museum of Science and Technology, and we will stop to see a true delight for our eyes, an ethnographic exhibition at the Ethnographic Museum.

The Grand Synagogue  the oldest preserved Jewish sanctuary in Romania, built in 1671. The Synagogue could not have been larger than the nearby churches, but the Jewish law mentioned that it must to be the most imposing building in the Jewish district. The sober exterior is in contrast to the richly adorned interior.

The Three Hierarchs Church – Constructed between 1637-1639, the current monastery has a stunning ornate decoration: the entire exterior is covered in delicate and intricate patterns sculpted into the stone and spread over 30 friezes. This ”stone embroidery” is a mixture of western Gothic, Renaissance, and Oriental motifs. The interior boasts the tombs of a number of famous Romanians, including the founder of this church, Vasile Lupu, Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza, and Prince Dimitrie Cantemir.

Cancellations can be made up to 48 hours prior to departure.

A city with wonderful monuments of architecture and culture! I was quite impressed by what I’ve seen in Iasi – the Palace of Culture (there are no words to describe it, it looks amazing now newly restored), the National Theatre, the Cathedral and Trei Ierarhi Church (what a beautiful and sad story at the same time) and the lovely time spent at Polizu. What a delight! A trip for my soul with a cheerful and dedicated guide – thank you Mihai! Generated from TourRadar
