  1. Day1 Airport* - Sibiel – Museum of Painted Glass Icons

Welcome to Transylvania! Soon after your arrival at the airport, you’ll be transferred to the rural area of Sibiel, a delightful place at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains. Sibiel is a unique place where traditions have not changed, where locals are still seen wearing peasant clothes created by their own hands. After reaching your accommodation – a boarding house in the center of the village- we will visit the Museum of Painted Glass Icons, the largest of its kind in Romania.

    Overnight in Sibiel.

*Recommended airports: Cluj-Napoca airport, Sibiu airport, Targu-Mures airport.

  2. Day2 Sibiel – fortified church of Biertan – Sighisoara fortress – Sibiel

On our second day, we’ll delve into the medieval history of Transylvania. First, we’ll visit the Fortified Church of Biertan, a place of worship, refuge, and prison all at once. Then we’ll take a stroll on the winding cobblestone streets of the picturesque Sighişoara, up to the Clock Tower. Interestingly, Sighişoara is the only fortress in southeastern Europe which has been constantly inhabited for almost 1000 years. In the evening, your hosts will organize a party including meals, music and Romanian traditional folk dances.

    Overnight in Sibiel.

  3. Day3 Hiking in Mărginimea Sibiului, one of the most beautiful rural areas in Europe

After breakfast you’ll try a means of transport that disappeared from Europe a long time ago, the cart pulled by horses, a means of transport that is actually still used in the Romanian countryside. Our beautiful journey will take us through the Carpathian Forests and we’ll pause for a picnic in a meadow offering a panoramic view on the surrounding villages. All products served are organic, the result of a natural process that has remained largely unaltered for decades.

    Overnight in Sibiel.

  4. Day4 Sibiel – Alba Carolina fortress (Alba Iulia) – Calnic Castle – Sibiel

Mornings in Transylvanian villages are full of hustle and bustle, as right after sunrise the work day begins and the streets are animated with people and animals. We leave the busy morning atmosphere behind and head to the Alba Carolina Fortress, the largest fortress in Romania, whose history begins with the Roman Empire and continues to this day. Our next tourist sight is Câlnic Castle, a monument listed under the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, an ancient noble’s dungeon turned into a defense fortress.

    Overnight in Sibiel.

  5. Day5 Glass painting workshop – traditional Romanian wedding

For a truly authentic local experience, your vacation in Transylvania should include some demonstrations of the local artisans. Your morning begins with a glass painting workshop, according to special techniques perfected over the years by craftsmen in the area. In the afternoon we’re invited to a traditional Romanian wedding. Dressed in traditional folk costumes, the wedding guests go to the bride’s and groom’s houses, accompanied by musicians and a cheerful crowd. The evening continues with the wedding party, where you’ll enjoy traditional foods and beverages.*

*This event is organized only for groups exceeding 15 people.

    Overnight in Sibiel.

  6. Day6 Sibiel – Sibiu, European cultural capital in 2007 – Sibiel

A few minutes away from Sibiel we enter the city of Sibiu – one of the absolute must-see places in Romania! Having been declared the European Cultural Capital in 2007, Sibiu greets the tourist with the atmosphere of a medieval German burg, with its wonderfully preserved old town and squares surrounded by historical buildings, museums, and artsy cafés.

    Overnight in Sibiel.

  7. Day7 Sibiel – Airport

Saying good-bye to the unique atmosphere of Transylvanian villages, we leave for the airport.

If you are looking to visit a land full of myths and history this is the tour you need to take. I just came back from Romania after being guided along the country by these professional people, that made my trip not only amazing but spectacular. You land in the capital, the place that was once the little Paris and then it became the place where the dictator was killed for democracy. They take you after through the magic Carpathian mountains, along the rivers, visiting all the important castles and natural beauties this country has to offer. And there you are. The land of Transylvania, Dracula's magic land, where stories about vampires mix with the ones about werewolves. It's just amazing how many cultures have left their marks in this country. From ancient Roman fortresses to the Gothic castles and traditional German houses. I will definitely go back to Romania and take Rolandia Travel to be my guide for unique experiences.
