When she was only 14, Nadia Comaneci astounded the entire world with her performance at the 1976 Olympic Summer Games in Montreal, obtaining what seemed until then impossible, the first perfect 10 in the history of Olympic gymnastics. Previously unknown, the Romanian representative was awarded three gold medals (winning the all-around, beam and bars titles), a bronze medal for the floor exercise and silver in the team competition, becoming the world’s youngest athlete to have ever been awarded the gold medal. She also captured two gold medals at the Moscow Olympic Games in 1980 and silver in the team routine.

Entering the array of famous Romanian people at age 14, nowadays Nadia Comaneci devotes a large share of her time to charitable activities. She and her husband, the American athlete Bart Conner, set up the Nadia Comaneci Foundation in support of Romanian orphans.
