Wallachia

Chapters

Wallachia is a historical and geographical region situated on the northern side of the Danube River and the southern side of the Carpathian Mountains. Its founding by Basarab I in the early 14th century can be traced back to that time. In 1859, it united with Moldavia, and it took the name of Romania in 1866. In 1918, it united with Bucovina, Transylvania, and several other regions to form the Romania that we know and love today.

Bucharest is by far the best-known city in Wallachia, but the region is home to many others, such as Buzau, Craiova, or Ploiesti.
