Frequently Asked Questions
What is Transylvania known for?
Transylvania is famous for its Gothic and Renaissance castles — Bran (Dracula’s Castle), Peleș and Corvin — its medieval Saxon towns such as Brașov, Sibiu and Sighișoara, its fortified churches, and the wild Carpathian Mountains. It’s also forever tied to Bram Stoker’s Dracula and the real historical figure Vlad the Impaler, born in Sighișoara.
Can I visit Bran Castle and Corvin Castle on one tour?
Yes. Bran is near Brașov in central Transylvania, while Corvin is further west in Hunedoara, so seeing both comfortably needs a multi-day tour. Our 4-day Transylvania Castles Tour from Bucharest combines Bran, Peleș and Corvin, and the 10-day Best of Romania includes them too. From Cluj, our day trip pairs Corvin with the Turda Salt Mine and Alba Carolina fortress.
How do I get from Bucharest to Transylvania?
It’s a 2.5–3 hour drive north from Bucharest through the Carpathians to Brașov, the gateway to Transylvania, passing Sinaia and Peleș Castle on the way. On a Rolandia tour we handle all the transport — you simply enjoy the scenery. There’s also a scenic train line, but a guided tour lets you stop at the castles en route.
When is the best time to visit Transylvania?
Late spring (May–June) and early autumn (September–October) offer the best mix of mild weather, green or golden landscapes and fewer crowds at the castles. October is special for autumn colour and the Halloween season around Bran Castle. Winter brings snow-dusted fortresses and Christmas markets in Brașov and Sibiu.
