Romania Small Group Tours Are Ideal for Discerning Travelers
Travel with Like-Minded People
Small group tours bring together fellow travelers who share the love for discovery, culture, and meaningful conversations. Whether you’re traveling with your spouse or a group of lifelong friends, these tours strike the right balance between social engagement and personal space. Many travelers find these settings perfect for building new friendships and enjoying shared experiences without the overwhelm typical of large groups.

Our small group tours have a maximum of six travelers. We particularly stopped at this number of people for you not to feel overwhelmed by a huge number of new faces and be able to establish a friendly relationship with all of them.
Kate Young said:This tour was a great way to see Transylvania in a more relaxing way than taking a long day trip from Bucharest. I can’t even imaging doing some of this in one day because there was so much to see. Our guide, Emil, was great, and it was a small group of 3 of us driving by car. The hotels that were chosen were all very nice with good breakfasts. I especially liked that the hotels were in the central areas and very easy to walk directly into the old towns to eat or explore. Highlights of the tour was Bran Castle, old town Sighisoara, and driving the Transfagarasan Highway and seeing 10 brown bears in the forested roads coming back down from the mountains. I would highly recommend this tour as a relaxing way to see a beautiful area of Romania.
Access Hidden Corners of the Country
From the cobbled streets of Brașov to the remote wooden churches of Maramureș, Romania’s most captivating stories can be found off the beaten path. Unlike large bus tours, small group experiences provide access to remote villages, boutique wineries, forest trails, and family-run inns. You’ll have the opportunity for intimate cultural interactions—from watching artisans hand-paint Easter eggs to participating in a traditional Transylvanian cooking workshop.

The first stop of Day 3 of our Classic Romania Tour is Sibiel. Sibiel is a charming Transylvanian village known for its preserved rural traditions, welcoming locals, and the largest collection of glass-painted icons in Europe. Nestled at the foot of the Cindrel Mountains, it offers an authentic glimpse into Romania’s pastoral life, far from tourist crowds.
Francis Tindall said:Just returned from a brilliant holiday to Transylvania. The itinerary was perfect and our guide, Traian was superb. He provided an excellent insight into how this part of the country had evolved and was always making sure we were happy with every aspect of the trip. Since returning we have recommended Transylvania to all our friends…all in all an unforgettable experience. Thank you, Francis and Amanda

Allison said:Thank you, Rolandia, for a delightful “Best of Romania in 10 Days” Tour. We were a small group of 6 travelers with our excellent guide George. Our transport through this beautiful country was via a Mercedes van which was quite comfortable. Our hotel accommodations were high quality, clean, conveniently located, and comfortable. All the sites we visited were interesting. Our guide and driver, George, was very knowledgeable, open to questions, and accomadating to our needs. His explanations of the many churches, castles, monestaries, citadels, museums, salt mine, and city center walking tours were well-stated and thorough. For senior travelers like me, I recommend bringing (folding/collapsible) hiking poles (which must be taken in your checked bag) to help you ascend the steep inclines to the citadels and Bran Castle if you have difficulty with such terrains. The hiking poles enabled me to fully participate in visiting these fascinating sites. It was a great experience to tour with Rolandia. I was also pleased with Rolandia’s pre-tour answers to questions via email.
Local Cuisine and Wine Shared at the Table
Dining in Romania is both a cultural experience and a social delight. On tour, you’ll enjoy farm-to-table meals, wine tastings at family-run vineyards, and regional specialties like sarmale, polenta with cheese, and homemade fruit preserves. Sharing meals with your group fosters wonderful conversations, and Romanians are known for their hospitality, always eager to make guests feel at home.

Misia Doms said:George was, to my mind, the best guide who can be imagined! Thanks to his immense erudition, local and biografical experience and patience he has been able to answer ANY question asked to him (and I am a really curious person and asked him all the time about almost everything). Moreover, he is an excellent and responsible driver and took thoroughly care of us in any situation in which we could have got lost etc! It was a great pleasure to discover one of the most beautiful countries I have ever visited with him! Moreover, I very much appreciated the travel route as well as the programme of the tour. Within four days there were so many unforgetable places to visit and sceneries to admire. Thank you so much, George. The most beautiful experience was Viscri, but each and every other stop was impressing as well. The Bran Castle would not have been a necessary stop to my mind, although the amount of tourists was acceptable then and the castle has some beauty in itself, of course (esp. in combination with the view over the valley).

The best time to visit Romania is between April and October. Springtime in April, May and even June is mild, with comfortable temperatures for walking. Nights could be cold though and rain might occur. Summer months of July and August tend to be hot, with temperatures ranging from 30 to 40 degrees Celsius in urban areas and very strong sun. Autumn in Romania brings beautiful foliage and warm weather, but also rainy days. We do not exclude the possibility of joining a tour in winter, as the landscapes covered in snow are truly magical. But you must acknowledge that rural areas can get hard to access and the temperatures are not that friendly for walking.
Yes. If you arrive earlier in Bucharest or want to spend another night here, we can add as many nights as you wish. Remember that Romania small group tours start from Bucharest so if you will be somewhere else in Romania, we can also arrange a transfer for you. All you need to do is contact us before or after booking the tour.
There is no limitation regarding age, but the tours imply a certain level of physical activity. The roads are not always plain – we have cobbled stoned streets in medieval towns. There are also stairs to climb. There is a balance between walking sessions and driving time and the guide always adapts to the general pace of the group for everyone to feel comfortable.
We generally have travelers from North America, Australia, New Zealand or Singapore, but European citizens might also join the groups.
We recommend layered clothing as nights, and mountainous areas can be chilly. A sweater or a jacket would come perfectly. Comfortable walking shoes are the best choice for happy feet while traveling. Also pack sunglasses, sunscreen, and mosquitoes’ repellent. You can add a raincoat and a cap or hat.
Yes. If you enjoy one of our itineraries of Romania small group tours but you don’t feel that fully matches your preference, we can add or exclude locations. All you have to do is contact us and we will plan a private trip for you with recalculated prices.
In Romania, the average price for a meal in a local restaurant is around 45 RON, but it can vary from 30 to 80. If we talk about a three-course meal, the price can get to 200 RON/ person. A pint of beer is around 15 RON and a coffee about 10 RON.
Romania small group tours are the best choice for solo travelers: you do not pay the price of a private tour, and you get to meet new people to connect with. Socializing and experiencing Romania come hand in hand.
Comfort is our main goal for our travelers. Sharing a room is not an option. A single supplement is involved when booking as a solo traveler.
While you’ll have your own downtime too, you can expect a sociable experience where people eat together, travel together in a comfy mini-bus, and often become friends by the end of the trip.
There is no language barrier you will encounter in Romania. Your guide is fluent in English and will intervene whenever it is necessary. At restaurants, cafes and hotels the staff knows English very well. In rural areas, even if you will encounter non-English speaking, the guide will be there for helping with the translation. Knowing some Romanian phares will come in handy for bonding with locals, but it is not mandatory.
