Detailed itinerary

Breakfast: included on all days except the first day

Your adventure commences in Bucharest, Romania’s vibrant capital. Our tour guide will pick you up at 09:00 AM from your place for a city tour of Bucharest. Your day tour of Bucharest begins with the Palace of Parliament, the city’s most iconic building from the communist period. The spectacular structure, also known as the House of the People, has been recognised by Guinness World Records as the world’s second-largest building after the Pentagon. As you walk through the magnificent marble halls, your tour guide will explain the dismal details that enabled its construction.

Lunch: at your expense

Your day in Bucharest continues with a sightseeing tour of the city’s Old Town, which is home to various historical sites, architectural marvels, and notable buildings. This is Bucharest’s nightlife hotspot, and its gorgeous turmoil will help you feel the city’s mood. After the Bucharest tour ends, you will be transferred to your hotel.

Dinner: at your expense

Evening: You are free to spend the remainder of the evening as you please.

Overnight in Bucharest.

Breakfast: at the hotel

The stunning province of Transylvania will be your destination on the second day of your journey to Romania, departing from Bucharest at 09:00 AM. Curtea de Arges Monastery, which is situated at the base of the Carpathian Mountains, is a significant religious site that you will first visit. Afterwards, you will take a road journey through the Olt Valley, admiring some of the region’s spectacular natural landscapes before arriving at Cozia Monastery, a religious house that reflects national medieval art and architecture.

*During the summer (July to November), the journey to Cozia Monastery will be substituted by a car drive along the magnificent Transfăgărășan Highway.

Lunch: at your expense

Your next stop is Sibiu, named the European Capital of Culture in 2007. Here, you will have a walking tour of a city that successfully combines history and multicultural features. During your city tour, you will visit Sibiu’s Main Square, where you will appreciate the Brukenthal Museum and the Roman Catholic Cathedral, before moving on to Huet Square, which has an Evangelical church.

You will next pass via the stairwell and cross the renowned Bridge of Lies.

Dinner: at your expense

In the evening, you are free to spend the rest of your evening in Sibiu as you desire.

Overnight in Sibiu.

Breakfast: at the hotel

At 09:00, the Classic Romania tour will continue with a rural replica of Sibiu, Sibiel, a charming Transylvanian village regarded as one of Europe’s most authentic and well-preserved rural communities.

Following a short walk through the village, the tour continues with a short excursion to Alba Carolina, Romania’s greatest fort. It is enclosed by 12 kilometres of walls and designed in the shape of a star. Alba Carolina Fortress was once a Roman fort, then a fortress throughout the Middle Ages, and finally a Vauban-type construction.

Lunch: at your expense

The next destination is Turda Salt Mine, a massive underground salt mine where you will capture that incredible photo that will wow everyone!

Your tour guide will lead you through hundreds of meters of passageways that open onto halls, one of which is 118 meters tall and has a lake at the bottom. The sights inside the mine are unearthly, enticing artists seeking breathtaking views.

The adventure continues with Cluj-Napoca, Transylvania’s largest city and proclaimed city of arts.

Dinner: at your expense

You are free to spend the rest of your evening as you desire.

Overnight in Cluj-Napoca.

Breakfast: at the hotel

The morning of the fourth day of your trip to Romania will be spent doing a city tour of Cluj-Napoca. The St Michael’s Gothic Cathedral, which overlooks the city’s centre square, is first on our list of sights for the day, followed by the Banffy Palace, the former mayor’s palace, and Mirror Street.

From Cluj, you will travel to Maramureș in northeastern Romania, which resembles a wonderful open-air museum. Despite being denied rights and advantages for hundreds of years, the inhabitants of these regions have conquered adversity by adhering to two basic rules: live life to the fullest and, above all, treasure the richness of the soul.

The Maramureș community are regarded as the most welcoming Romanians, and their ancient wooden houses are a living reminder of their history. You will visit Breb, one of Maramureș’s best-preserved traditional villages, and learn about the local way of life by interacting with them and visiting an actual home.

Lunch: at your expense

Our second and final stop of the day is Săpînţa, the world’s first community with a Merry Cemetery. The wood-carved crosses, painted in vibrant hues, feature witty, funny quatrains inspired by the lives of individuals who are no longer with us.

Dinner: Romanian traditional dinner and folkloric show

Overnight in Breb

Breakfast: at the hotel

The fifth day of your Classic Romania tour will include visits to two UNESCO World Heritage-listed wooden churches: Poienile Izei (Iza Meadows) and Barsana, the latter of which is one of Romania’s biggest Orthodox architectural ensembles. The art of woodcarving, perfected over generations, is still the primary craft of the local community, as seen by a local artisan’s workshop. Following his presentation, you will be able to purchase one-of-a-kind handcrafted souvenirs.

Lunch: at your expense

In the evening, we will reach Sighisoara, the only inhabited medieval fortress included in UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites. This is an excellent place to learn more about Dracula’s stories and the real-life ruler, Vlad the Impaler (Vlad Tepes). The Clock Tower from Sighișoara, a city emblem, is reached by ascending the meandering cobblestone pathways dotted with old buildings. From there, you can take in the breathtaking panoramas. The Tower houses a museum of medieval weapons as well as a torture room. After touring the tower, you will climb three hundred wooden steps to the Church-on-the-Hill, built in the 14th century.

Dinner: at your expense

You are free to spend the rest of your evening as you please.

Overnight in Sighisoara

Breakfast: at the hotel

Your Classic Romania Tour will take you to Biertan on the sixth day. This is the greatest fortified church in Transylvania, constructed by the Saxons in the sixteenth century and now recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

His Royal Highness, Prince Charles, was fascinated by rural life and the tranquil ambience of this Transylvanian village, so he rebuilt one of the original buildings in Viscri village, making it the location he heads to every year in May. Aside from enjoying the unique design of Viscri residences, you will have a horse-drawn carriage trip through the hamlet, where you will be able to appreciate the peaceful, rural surroundings. Furthermore, you will be able to visit the people and sample some of Transylvania’s greatest homemade desserts.

Lunch: at a local family

Next, you will arrive in Brasov, which is situated at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains and was founded by the Teutonic Knights.

Dinner: at your expense

You are free to spend the remainder of the evening as you please.

Overnight in Brasov.

Breakfast: at the hotel

The seventh day of your vacation in Romania begins in Council Square, Brasov’s central location, where you will enjoy a walking tour of the city and visit Rope Street (Strada Sforii), one of the world’s smallest streets. Admire the magnificent Gothic Cathedral, also known as the Black Church (Biserica Neagra), which was built following a devastating fire in 1689.

Afterwards, prepare to be spooked (or perhaps intrigued) as we visit Bran Castle, more popularly known as Dracula’s Castle. Built atop a dramatic cliff in the 13th century, this iconic landmark offers a glimpse into medieval times. Bran is one of the world’s reputedly haunted medieval castles. The gorgeous building sits strategically atop a 60-meter cliff, overlooking the most significant entrance route into medieval Transylvania.

Lunch: at your expense

Afterwards, you will arrive at a charming small mountain resort that gained notoriety mainly as a result of the Romanian Royal Family’s decision to make Sinaia their official house throughout the 20th century. The first destination will be Sinaia’s Orthodox Monastery, followed by Peles stronghold, a magnificent Gothic-style stronghold erected by Romania’s first king, Carol I of Hohenzollern Sigmaringen. You will enjoy a palace tour and learn about the life of the Romanian royal family.

Dinner: at your expense

You will arrive in Bucharest in the evening, marking the end of your Transylvanian journey, but you are free to spend the remainder of the evening as you please.

Overnight in Bucharest.

Breakfast: at the hotel

Your enchanting Romanian adventure concludes in Bucharest. Enjoy a final breakfast at your hotel before a relaxing transfer to the airport, where you’ll depart with a suitcase full of memories and a heart brimming with love for this captivating country.
