Which one of us hasn’t watched at least one movie lately? Well, how many? 1, 2, 3 ... more movies? I thought so! Since Hotel Transylvania 2 is coming back on the screen with a new and funny story about Dracula, we’ve decided that we should make a list with some of the most famous movies about Romania.

Famous movies about Romania

Of course, we’ve started with the one and only Bram Stoker's Dracula, directed and produced by Francis Ford Coppola. Dracula is a 1992 American horror movie. The film stars Gary Oldman as Count Dracula, Winona Ryder as Mina Harker, Anthony Hopkins as Professor Abraham Van Helsing, and Keanu Reeves as Jonathan Harker.

The story starts with the return of Dracula, a member of the Order of the Dragon, from a victory against the Turks, and he finds out that his wife, Elisabeta, committed suicide after she receives a false message about her husband's death. The movie continues with the appearance of the lawyer Jonathan Harker, who came from London to help Dracula buy a house there. During their meeting, Dracula sees a picture of Jonathan’s fiance and believes she is the reincarnation of his deceased wife, Elisabeta.

New sources say that Francis Ford Coppola’s stunning adaptation of “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” is getting a newly restored Supreme Cinema edition with new 4k derived transfer in October. Now, this is a beautiful surprise!

Next on the list of famous movies about Romania is Youth without Youth, directed by Francis Ford Coppola. The film production shows Tim Roth as Dominic Matei, Alexandra Maria Lara as Veronica/Laura, Bruno Ganz as Teacher Stanciulescu, André Hennicke as Josef Rudolf.

Youth Without Youth is a 2007 fantasy drama based on Mircea Eliade's novel of the same name. It tells the story of Dominic Matei, an old Romanian professor from Piatra Neamt, who is stroked by lightning near Bucharest train station. After this event, he gets younger and possesses great intellectual skills.

We continue with Transylvania, directed by Tony Gatlif. It is a 2006 French drama film starring Asia Argento as Zingarina, Amira Casar as Marie, Birol Ünel as Tchangalo, Alexandra Beaujard as Luminitsa and Marco Castoldi as Milan Agustin.

The movie tells the story of Zingarina, a rebellious Italian girl who decides to go to Transylvania with her best friend Marie in search of the man she loves, Milan Agustin, who was deported from France. The two of them hire an interpreter to help them find Milan, but when the girls find them, he rejects Zingarina. From that moment, the story turns unexpectedly, and her destiny is about to change radically.

Which one of you didn’t hear about the Twilight Saga? Forth on our list of famous movies about Romania is The Twilight Saga - Breaking Dawn Part 2 directed by Bill Condon and based on the novel Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer. It is a 2012 American romantic fantasy film starring Kristen Stewart as Isabella "Bella" Cullen (borne Swan), Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen, Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black, Dakota Fanning as Jane and many others. In this last part of the Twilight Saga series, two founding members of the Romanian coven, Vladimir and Stefan, the enemy clan of the Volturi, make an appearance. The story of these two has been inspired by the legend of Vlad the Impaler. The movie shows that Vladimir’s coven was once the most powerful, but when Volturi rose to power, they defeated and killed 10 members of the Romanian coven.

Coming to our days, Hotel Transylvania and Hotel Transylvania 2 are the last ones from our list with famous movies about Romania. Both of them are American 3D computer-animated fantasy comedy films produced by Sony Pictures. Hotel Transylvania tells the story of Count Dracula, the owner of a hotel called Hotel Transylvania. This is the only hotel for the world's monsters. Dracula invites a few of his friends to celebrate his daughter Mavis’s 18 birthday. At some point, at the hotel appears a 21-year-old traveler named Jonathan that changes the whole course of events.

Hotel Transylvania 2 continues the story from the first movie and welcomes a new member – Dennis – the first child of Mavis and Jonathan.
