The Merry Cemetery

The Merry Cemetery has become famous due to the ways in which the locals chose to laugh at Death. The wooden crosses are painted in bright colors.

The Red Lake

The Red Lake is the largest barrier lake in the Eastern Carpathian Mountains, and it is located in the Hasmasul Mare Mountains, near the Bicaz Gorges. It is also known as "the Killer Lake", partly because of the reddish, blood-like color lent by the sediments carried, and partly due to a horrific legend.

The Shepherdess

The little steam train is known as "The Shepherdess" is one of the last steam trains in Europe that are still being used, first being used in 1932 for timber.

Transfagarasan Road

Jeremy Clarkson called it "the best road in the world", so who are we to argue with him? The Transfagarasan passes through the southern section of the Carpathian Mountains, and it was built during Ceausescu's Communist regime, between 1970 and 1974.
